The PTC Executive Directorate Office, in cooperation with the Caraga State University (CSU), successfully conducted a three-day CASEE Training program for the Caraga Region Universities from December 9-11, 2024, at the CSU campus in Butuan City. The event brought together deans, faculty members, and administrative staff from various state and private institutions in the CARAGA region with the goal of enhancing the quality of engineering education through Outcomes-Based Engineering Education (OBE) and Outcomes-Based Accreditation (OBA) frameworks. It aimed to provide attendees with essential knowledge and practical skills to assure the quality of engineering programs meeting international standards and accreditation requirements of the Washington Accord and the FEIAP Engineering Education Guidelines.
Day 1: The training kicked off with CASEE 101 – Awareness Course where Engr. Federico A. Monsada, PTC President, introduced the fundamentals of Outcomes-Based Education (OBE) and Outcomes-Based Accreditation (OBA). He also outlined the mission and vision of PTC for engineering education and engineering professionals, emphasizing the alignment with international standards such as the Washington Accord and FEIAP Engineering Education Guidelines. The session highlighted how these frameworks ensure the delivery of high-quality education, preparing students to meet global industry demands.
Day 2: The focus shifted to CASEE 102 – Understanding CASEE (Certification and Accreditation System for Engineering Education). Engr. Federico Monsada led in-depth discussions and workshops on the PTC accreditation criteria, exploring the policies, criteria, and best practices necessary for the international accreditation of engineering programs. The session emphasized how these practices ensure that programs align with global industry standards set by the Washington Accord and FEIAP, meeting the growing demands of the engineering community. Participants engaged in interactive learning activities that enhanced their understanding of the CASEE system and its significance to the quality assurance of engineering education in the country.
Day 3: The final day, CASEE 103, focused on practical skills for accreditation. Participants learned how to prepare Self-Study Reports that meet the requirements. Participants also gained insights into the conduct of the entire PTC Accreditation Review process from the receipt of the SSR, conduct of the Desk Top Review and, eventually, the Accreditation onsite review visit and reporting. Engr. Federico Monsada and Ms. Robelle Ampuan guided the participants through these crucial steps, ensuring understanding of the intricacies of the PTC international accreditation review process. The session concluded with the awarding of Certificates of Appreciation, followed by inspiring closing remarks from Dr. Rolyn Daguil, President of Caraga State University, who praised the participants for their dedication to advancing quality of engineering education. To recognize the outstanding efforts in organizing this successful activity, Certificates of Appreciation were awarded to Dr. Rolyn C. Daguil, PhD, President of Caraga State University; Dr. Joy C. Capistrano, Regional Chairperson of PASUC Caraga, President of the Caraga Association of SUCs, Inc., and President of Agusan del Sur State College of Agriculture and Technology; Dr. Nemesio G. Loayon, President of NEMSU; and Dr. Alma Sy-Patron, PhD, OIC – University President of SNSU.
This impactful training aimed to help shape the future of engineering education in the Philippines, equipping institutions with the tools and knowledge needed to meet accreditation standards and global benchmarks especially those set by the Washington Accord under the International Engineering Alliance and the FEIAP Engineering Education Guidelines.
