The second phase of the periodic review and alignment process of PTC CASEE Accreditation and Advanced Level Engineer Competency Standards with the International Engineering Alliance’s Graduate Attributes & Professional Competence Version 4 (GAPC) was conducted successfully last December 18, 2024, at the Ang Bahay ng Alumni, UP Diliman Campus, Quezon City. The event was attended by senior members of PTC ACBET, EAC, and several leading figures in engineering education and accreditation for a day of meaningful discussions and collaborative efforts.
The program commenced with an opening message from Engr. Federico A. Monsada, PTC President, who highlighted the objectives and learning outcomes of the activity. Participants thereafter engaged in in-depth review and discussion sessions, culminating in group presentations of their findings.
Following from the results of the comparative and gap analyses done during the introductory phase review conducted late last year, the participants identified and discussed various alternatives to address the identified gaps between the 2nd edition of CASEE and those of the GAPC. Beyond closing-the-gap proposals, several improvements to the current edition were also identified by the focused discussion groups formed during the review process. Some of the changes and improvements include the following: a clause providing for the transition from the previous CASEE version to the new version; and a mechanism to address the UN SDG’s, among others.
The draft of the new version (3rd Edition) of CASEE, following the review and refinement process, will be put out for final reading before June 2025. The final draft will be rolled out to Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) during the Academic Year 2025-2026. A transition period of two (2) years, i.e., from AY2026-2027 to AY2027-2028, will be adopted within which HEIs may choose to submit their programs for accreditation under either of the two (2) CASEE editions. Thereafter, in AY2028-2029, all programs to be submitted for evaluation will be reviewed for accreditation against the new 3rd Edition of CASEE.
Dr. Lydia G. Tansinsin, the ACBET Chair, in her closing message, extended PTC’s heartfelt gratitude to all participants and facilitators for their invaluable contributions to the success of this review activity. She emphasized the need to continue working together to uphold excellence and leadership in engineering education in the Philippines.
