The PTC Accreditation and Certification Board for Engineering and Technology (ACBET) adjudicates the final accreditation decision on each and every engineering program submitted for accreditation by the HEI. Based on the findings and recommendations of the Program Evaluation Team (PTC) and following the subsequent review, moderation and consistency checks by the Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC), ACBET decides on any of the following accreditation decision
1. NGR (Next General Review): This action indicates that the program has no Deficiencies or Weaknesses and, thus, the program is granted accreditation of six years until the next general review. This action is taken only after a Comprehensive General Review and has a typical duration of six years.
2. WR (Weakness Requires Interim Report) – This action indicates that the program has no Deficiencies but has one or more Weaknesses. The Weaknesses are such that a progress report will be required prior to the expiration date to evaluate and verify the remedial actions and improvements taken by the program. This action has a typical duration of two (2) years.
3. WV (Weakness Requires Interim Visit) – This action indicates that the program has no Deficiencies but has one or more Weaknesses. The Weaknesses are such that an interim report needs to be submitted prior to the expiration of the accreditation and that an on-site visit will be required to evaluate and verify the remedial actions and improvements taken by the program. This action has a typical duration of two (2) years.
4. WE (Weakness Resolved – Extend Accreditation) – This action indicates that satisfactory remedial action has been taken by the institution with respect to Weaknesses identified in the prior WR or WV action. This action is taken only after a WR or WV review. This action extends accreditation to the next General Review and has a typical duration of either two (4) or four (4) years.
5. DR (Deficiency Requires Interim Report) – This action indicates that a currently accredited program has one or more Deficiencies. The Deficiencies are such that a progress report will be required to evaluate the remedial actions taken by the institution. This action has a typical duration of two (2) years. This action cannot follow a previous DR or DV action for the same Deficiency(ies).
6. DV (Deficiency Requires Interim Visit) – This action indicates that a currently accredited program has one or more Deficiencies. The Deficiencies are such that an interim report is require prior to the expiration of accreditation and that an on-site visit will be required to evaluate and verify the remedial actions and improvements taken by the program. This action has a typical duration of two (2) years. This action cannot follow a previous DR or DV action for the same Deficiency (deficiencies).
7. DE (Deficiency Addressed-Extend Accreditation) – This action indicates that satisfactory remedial action has been taken by the institution with respect to all Deficiencies and Weaknesses identified in the prior DR or DV action. This action is taken only after either a DR or DV review. This action typically extends accreditation to the next General Review and has a typical duration of either two or four years.
8. NA (No Accreditation) – This action indicates that the program has Deficiencies such that the program is not in compliance with applicable criteria, and not accredited. This action is usually taken only after a DR or DV review, or the review of a previously unaccredited program. Accreditation of previous DR or DV is not extended as a result of this action
